What We Do

We strive for a community where
all people are thriving.

Leaders acknowledged the good work happening across Kennebec County but recognized that organizations are not always moving in the same direction toward the same goals. United Way of Kennebec Valley and its Board of Directors began researching and gauging public interest in a community-wide goal-setting initiative in early 2020. Dozens of early conversations with community leaders garnered support for this one-of-a-kind effort that aimed to unite businesses, nonprofits, and government entities across Kennebec County under one shared vision for the first time.

In early 2021, UWKV convened a goal-setting council and three expert panels to develop a framework with established visions in health, education, and financial stability, indicators to measure progress, and potential strategies to guide the work. In July 2022, the goal-setting council publicly launched the initiative for Kennebec County. Since then, UWKV has been connecting with endorsers to advance the project and evaluate their progress as well as convening a new council to oversee the process and cabinets to start addressing issues as a collective.

Impact2032 provides the platform to foster more focused and informed work across the region and stronger collective alignment through sharing data and performance measures. By 2032, Kennebec County will have achieved these 10-year community goals, and UWKV will track our progress publicly every step of the way.
