Impact2032 Spotlight: Maine Association for the Education of Young Children

The Maine Association for the Education of Young Children (MaineAEYC) is dedicated to improving the lives of children, families, and educators across Kennebec County and beyond. By aligning with Impact2032’s vision for healthier communities, stronger educational opportunities, and greater financial stability, MaineAEYC is actively creating positive change that extends well beyond the classroom.

MaineAEYC promotes health and wellness through professional development opportunities at the Statewide Early Childhood Conference, bringing in presenters who equip educators with strategies to incorporate wellness practices into all early childhood education settings. Internally, MaineAEYC is equally committed to the health of its staff by offering flexible schedules, fully covered health insurance benefits, and support for paid family and medical leave.

Education remains at the heart of MaineAEYC’s work. The organization advocates for expanded access to public prekindergarten, supports childcare providers with free or low-cost professional development, and hosts statewide conferences in partnership with agencies like DHHS, MRTQ, and KVCAP. They also provide scholarships and career pathways through their T.E.A.C.H. program, which improves educator knowledge and compensation while ensuring that children benefit from consistent, high-quality care. MaineAEYC further addresses complex needs by offering trainings on trauma, mental health, and adverse childhood experiences, and by promoting social-emotional learning in early childhood programs.

To advance financial stability, MaineAEYC invests in educators’ futures. The T.E.A.C.H. program offers scholarships, tuition assistance, and apprenticeships, while also visiting local colleges and technical centers to recruit the next generation of childcare professionals. The organization has successfully advocated for wage supplements for childcare providers and continues to explore innovative ways to increase access to the field.

Through advocacy, education, and support, MaineAEYC is shaping a brighter, more equitable future for Kennebec County’s children, families, and early educators.
