As a result of Impact2032, Sexual Assault Crisis & Support Center has made changes to support children and adult having the resources to participate in behaviors that promote health and wellness as well as the ability to achieve optimum health regardless of social or economic barriers.
The Center incorporated healthy snacks options that meet a variety of dietary allergies and sensitivities for families attending interviews at the Children’s Advocacy Center. Options include pure applesauce, gluten-free rice and corn puffs, organic fruit gummies, organic cheese crackers, and Chex Mix. The Center removed the tree nut options though continues to offer trail mix or granola bars to families who do not have allergies within their household and continues to offer bottled water to families during the interview process. The Center also secured additional funding to offer a $25 Hannaford gift card to families facing food insecurity.
In regard to promoting physical and behavioral health and wellness, the Center provides families with a resources, including but not limited to, MaineGeneral Health’s Prevention and Healthy Living Program Guides, information on trauma-focused yoga (when available), quick calming breathing exercises for caregivers, “100 Things You Can Do With Your Child For Free,” and “A-Z Coping Skills for Children,” such as going for a walk, enjoying nature, deep breathing exercises, moving their bodies and exercises, etc.
While their mission remains focused on lessening the trauma-related suffering of sexual assault and promoting healing, the Center recognizes the importance of supporting the whole-person, which includes their physical and behavioral wellness.
